Myofunctional Therapy FAQs

  • Arielle is a Certified Myofunctional Therapist (CMT). Our other therapists are trained in myofunctional therapy.

As speech-language pathologists, orofacial myology is within our scope of practice. As certified and licensed therapists, an additional certification is not required.

  • Traditional myofunctional therapy is typically implemented around age 4 or older. However, as speech-language pathologists, we can work with children from birth to 4 through oral motor feeding therapy. The goals are similar for both therapies, but we use different methods to achieve those goals for our younger children.

  • In general, we suggest pausing therapy while in active expansion. We suggest beginning therapy shortly before or right after expanders are removed. Myofunctional therapy can continue while in traditional braces or invisalign. However, everyone’s case is different, and some of our clients choose to continue therapy while in expansion. Feel free to reach out to us with questions.
